Tonia/Host: Good evening everyone! Welcome to Entertainment
Drive's Live Conference with Cindy Crawford on www.edrive.com and
CSi CompuServe. eDrive is honored to have our favorite model and
author making her online debut with us tonight live from eDrive's
New York City CyberStudio!
Cindy joins us tonight to promote her new book, "Cindy Crawford's
Basic Face: A Makeup Workbook." Currently available from
Broadway Books, "Cindy Crawford's Basic Face" is a guide to
maximizing your face in the minimum time. She's got hints,
encouragement and trade secrets to share about problem areas such
as lips, eyes and foundation.
Confused about your complexion? Perplexed over powders? Tonight
is your time to ask Cindy everything you've ever wanted to know
about makeup, but were afraid to ask! In addition, we're honored
to have her officially cutting the virtual ribbon on our
new web site at www.eDrive.com.
Entertainment Drive (eDrive) was first to offer fans live online
backstage coverage of the Oscars(r) and virtually all the other
major industry awards, and premiered digitized movie scenes from
Universal Pictures, Warner Bros., Walt Disney Pictures, and many
others online. Tom Hanks, Spike Lee, Kurt Russell, and dozens of
other celebrities have connected live with fans from eDrive's
CyberStudio.
The 1994 launch of the flagship Entertainment Drive Forum(tm) on
CompuServe was followed by eight successful "spin-off"
communities - each focusing on a specific aspect of entertainment
- that have attracted more than a million members. eDrive now
connects fans with the best in entertainment worldwide on
CompuServe (GO EDRIVE), WOW! and the Web (www.eDrive.com).
Throughout the night, you will see live color pictures of Cindy
Crawford as she interacts with fans from eDrive's CyberStudio in
New York City. Visit the Cindy Crawford area on eDrive.com or GO
CINDY for more information on "Cindy Crawford's Basic Face."
And, for the first time, she can see you too! (just kidding.) IF
YOU WANT TO ASK A QUESTION, please click on the "?" icon, type in
your question, and it will be placed in the queue. We have court
stenographers using the latest technology to get Cindy's answers
out to you as fast as 200 words per minute. When you type in
your question, please let us know where you are from. We're
excited to meet our friends from around the world tonight!
Cindy Crawford is an international model who has appeared on over
400 magazine covers. She is the spokesperson for Revlon and has
two best-selling fitness videos made in collaboration with the
trainer Radu. For six years, Cindy was host of MTV's ground-
breaking fashion magazine, "House of Style." Additionally, her
ongoing relationship with Pepsi as well as her annual calendars
have helped to make her one of the most recognizable faces in the
world. And now, please welcome the President and CEO of
Entertainment Drive, Michael Bolanos!
Michael Bolanos: Welcome, good evening. I'm Michael Bolanos and
I'm the President and CEO of Entertainment Drive. I hope each and
every one of you have already purchased her book "Cindy
Crawford's Basic Face." I have a couple of questions for Cindy
which she will answer and a court stenographer will take Cindy's
response. Another nice thing about this event is people are
getting live videos at the same time. This is one of the most
technically advanced projects. A special hello to Sonia as well.
I see that it is already happening. Cindy, how did the book come
about and tell us a little bit about what to expect and why you
wrote the book.
Cindy Crawford: She's [Sonia Kashuk] worked with lots of great
models and photographers so both Sonia and I have trade secrets
we would like to share and we thought a book was the best venue
for that because it's portable. We felt like women could take it
into their bathrooms in front of their makeup mirrors and lay it
flat, it's kind of like a cookbook or workbook.
Michael Bolanos: It is. It is beautifully bound and it looks
great. You mention that a basic face is a 5 minute confidence
builder. What do you mean by this?
Cindy Crawford: I think a lot of men don't realize how
intimidating the thought of putting makeup on can be for women
because no one ever teaches you how to do it. The only reason to
wear makeup is to make you look better. If you're not doing it
right, it doesn't make you look better or feel better. With the
tools we have given in the book, we hope women will have
confidence about the makeup they do choose to wear and for us,
it's the "Basic Face" like the black turtleneck or white shirt,
it looks good everyone on and you can't mess it up.
Michael Bolanos: I had a chance to read it and I think there are
a lot of people who have learned a lot.
Cindy Crawford: Also as a model I get my makeup done by
professionals and sometimes it's very extreme, not maybe
something I would be comfortable walking down the street in.
That's fun as a model but as a woman in real life, I don't want
someone saying, wow, look at your makeup. I want them saying you
look great. It's how we all wish we looked when we woke
up in the morning.
Michael Bolanos: Congratulations on the book.
Cindy Crawford: Congratulations to you. What a coincidence.
Michael Bolanos: Broadway Books or your local book store are
where you can find Cindy's book. Cindy, some of the folks online
tonight are going to be men. Can you explain what we can do to
look better.
Cindy Crawford: I think the one tip from the book that applies,
because I don't think men should really wear makeup too much,
women want one thing that's ours, I think makeup should be it.
But I also think that one of the tips in the book is if all else
fails smile. That one for sure applies to men too.
Michael Bolanos: Why don't we take a first question.
Q: What is the MOST basic face.. for a mother of three??.. I have
NO time for extras!
Cindy Crawford: The whole premise of the book is it shouldn't
take more than five minutes to do your makeup for every day. So
for me, the basic face is covering up any undereye circles or
zits. Yes, I admit I do get them on occasion. Then powdering
that, probably adding a little color to my cheeks, a lip pencil
with gloss over it for my lips and mascara. I don't do eyeshadow
unless it's more serious for dinner. This I really, seriously,
can do in three minutes. Sometimes I go to the gym in the middle
of the day and have to redo it and have to go up to a meeting at
Revlon. It can be basic if you have the right tools and
application techniques. Thanks for your question. Go ahead. I'm
learning the Internet lingo.
