Being a teen ain't easy. But it was particularly hard back in the early 80s when being a teen wasn't just about whether you'd go to the prom, but whether you were going to make it home from the prom alive!
While most folks have got nothing but disdain for the whole "teen-kill" era (i.e. "The Golden Age of Gore") when cheapjack Canadian producers were PROUD to call their latest opus a "splatter" film, I've got a soft spot a mile wide for em. Especially in today's "we'll make a splatter movie but we won't call it splatter or even 'horror'" atmosphere.
With that in mind (and with the holiday season rapidly approaching), TapeHead has decided to give you a review breakdown of all the tragedy that could have befallen you and your classmates had you gone to high school in the 80s:
NOTE: We didn't include titles like Night of the Demons and Nightmare on Elm Street because the killers are supernatural. And there are too dang many of those to count. We also purposefully left out the 90s wave of "teen kill" flicks - Scream, I Know What You Did . . ., Disturbing Behavior, etc. We'll tackle those in another decade or so. We're still amazed at the sheer volume of films the year 1981 produced!
