The inaugural Toronto "FantAsia Film Festival" came to a close with a cramped but animated celebratory bash Pauper's Pub's Piano Bar, just across the sea of cabs from the historic Bloor Cinema. Where else could you see the director of "Hardware" rub shoulders with Canada's stickfighting champ?
Originating as a Montreal event three years ago, Fant-Asia 98 made its Toronto debut on July 10 with a new print of Robert Clouse's Bruce Lee epic "Enter The Dragon", followed by the Canadian premiere of Darren Aronofsky's "Pi", and a midnight screening of Clarence Ford's Category 3 thriller "The Naked Killer". The festival officially concluded 31 days and 97 outrageous films later with two North American premiere screenings of John Carpenter's awesome "Vampires", starring James Woods and Sheryl Lee.
