TapeHead - (noun) - 1) The spinning silver wheel in your VCR that enables you to watch videos. 2) Video-obsessed individual. Much like a "DeadHead" or a "PotHead" replacing Jerry Garcia or marijuana with videotapes . . . Why TapeHead? The simple answer would be "why the hell not?" The basic premise of TapeHead springs from our love of the small screen. Video (or DVD or Laserdisc for those of you out there) is a vast arena, a hundred times more active than theatrical release. Two new direct-to-video films come out for every major theatrical release. We won't even mention the sheer volume of older films that are seeing the light of the cathode ray for the first time. Most of the time we go to the video store in order to get the newest release that we missed in the theater . . . But what about all those other movies that sit between The Apostle and Wild Things? What about that new Alyssa Milano sex thriller? Or how about that Ice T/ Christopher Lambert actioneer? Is it worth your rental dollar? What do you do when the video you had your heart set on is rented out? Surfing the internet, it's easy to find a hundred sites to tell you everything you need to know about Leo or a review of what opened this Friday at the cineplex . . . But there seems to be a void when it comes to superstars like Mark Dacascos (who has made a lot more films than Mr. Dicaprio) or a review of the re-release of 1974's Nude for Satan.
