Based on the controversial novel by Bret Easton Ellis, American Psycho has made it to the big screen after more than ten years of failed attempts and directorial assignments (yes, everbody remembers that Oliver Stone and Leonardo DiCaprio's names were bandied about in the development stages). Well, the wait is finally over and the question is Was it worth it?. While the answer isn't an easy "NO," it certainly isn't a resounding "YES." Much like the long, tedious, one-note, but slightly interesting book it's based on, American Psycho is long, tedious, one-note, but still slightly interesting film. While it's an excellent adaptation of the book, one is left feeling that the book might have been better off un-adapted.
Watching the film is very much like eating Chinese food -- filling while you eat, but leaving you wanting more within minutes of its conclusion. I left American Psycho with the overwhelming urge to watch a "real" movie -- one with a story arc and character development.
