Canadian director Bruce McDonald likes to put his fixations on the screen, I think, most notably his fascination with the open road and with punk music. The road thing is obvious, given that his most prominent movies-Roadkill, Highway 61, and Hard Core Logo--are all road films, but the punk thing had only been hinted at in the earlier two--cameos by Jello Biafra and Art Bergmann, Ramones music in the background, and the like. Hard Core Logo, a mock-documentary about a punk band on tour, is a more overt combination of the two fetishes.
